Visa On Arrival
All visitors to Bhutan require a visa; all visas are issued from Thimphu; visas are only issued to tourists booked with a local licensed tour operator, directly or through a foreign travel agent. Applications for tourist visas are submitted by the tour operator. Visa clearance from Thimphu must be obtained before coming to Bhutan. Visa clearance takes at least 10 days to process. Air tickets to Bhutan cannot be purchased without visa clearance. At your point of entry the visa will be stamped in your passport for a small variable fee, two passport photos will also be required. Visas are issued for a 15day period; extensions can be obtained in Thimphu at an additional cost.

Do I have to send you my passport to get a Bhutan visa? Is it safe to send a passport?
Yes. You will need to send your actual passport, not a copy of it. The Bhutan visa is stamped on your passport and will become one of your passport pages. Visa request cannot be processed without your original passport. Because of the importance of your passport, we strongly suggest that you send your application by a secure method, such as a guaranteed postal service or courier.
